Education

I have a bachelor's degree in Communications and an MFA in Film both from Florida State University. I completed a TESL Certificate through Oxford Seminars and have also obtained a master's degree specializing in TESOL from the American University in Cairo.

Experience

Though I specialize in English as a Second Language, I am a life-long writer and reader. It is my passion and I consider it to be my second job, especially as I have a book coming out next year. I believe that students learn best through story, even if that story is geography or biology. By showing students how the confusing elements of a subject weave together, they can better understand it and make it their own. Knowledge is just a collection of information and education is learning how to apply that knowledge. I tutored both before and during my degree program from 2011 through 2014. Prior to that, I worked at an SAT Prep center for K-12 students. I have worked with graduate and college students, as well as students all the way down to the elementary school level. They all have one thing in common: they want to learn the material and my goal is to help them do it. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are all essential skills in any academic setting. They also hugely contribute to success beyond the school setting. From job interviews to getting along with classmates, roommates, and even our family, it's all about communication, and that starts with language. I have a background in writing and will be coming out with a book with Penguin Random House in 2016 about disasters, for readers aged from 8 to 12. It's an exciting project that I can't wait to travel with and speak about to schools and libraries. I lived in France for six months, and go whenever I can. I am an intermediate speaker and love the language and culture.

Hobbies

I am a huge reader of both fiction and nonfiction, and am even being published in 2016. In addition to this 2-volume project about disasters, I'm also finishing a middle grade adventure novel. I went to film school, have written scripts, and am an avid watcher of movies, tv, and documentaries. I love to travel, and have been to most of Western Europe, visit France whenever I get a chance. At 16, I left home to be an exchange student in Norway for a year, went overseas again in my last semester of college, and lived most recently for 2 years in Egypt where I earned my degree in English as a Second Language.
